The building process
The first thing to do when we make a part for the plane, forexample the rudder. Is to find the proper pages in the handbook, the principle is much like building a small modelairplane og hangarship.
Everything is divided into small steps wich has to be followed to keep track of everything.

The process from pieces to finished product is in several steps.

Alle holes in skin baffles and so on has already been predrilled for Van's aircraft. I.e they match exactly or as good as can be. They just have to be matchdrilled when we assemble it to make a perfect fit.

  • All the parts are numbered, those parts needed for the individual item is found.

  • All edges need to be deburred i.e. with sandpaper og a special tool. It is important to remove all dents , if not removed they can cause cracks in the future. Furthermore when the edges have been deburred you don't have to worry about cutting yourselv on the sharp edges. (Already tried that ouch).

  • Everything is taken apart.

  • Countersinking of any holes that requires it.

  • All holes deburres

  • All the parts are primed to prevent corrosion.

  • The parts are assembled and riveted.

  • When a part is made, it is set aside. When this part is needed to go on the airframe it is brought back and put on.
